Pedro Ruiz could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Montgomery Biscuits lost, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Birmingham Barons at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium. Picking up the win was Jeremy Meduna. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits. The left--hander struck out 6 and walked 2. Tony Gomez recorded the save for Birmingham, his 2nd of the season.

Justin McWilliams had a big run-scoring double for the Barons in the top of the fifth inning. With Birmingham leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Pedro Ruiz and swatted a double to right. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Barons ahead, 2-0.

"Good to pick up this win," McWilliams said.

The first-place Barons have won 8 in a row.
