Fans watched the Jacksonville Suns and the Birmingham Barons fight to the finish.

Jacksonville pitcher Rick Reckers had a large part in his team subduing the Birmingham Barons, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Reckers, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 6, and allowing 2 runs. Zózimo Oliveiras nailed down the save.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Suns had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when second baseman Alex Barraza hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Bob Nice and made the score 2-1, Suns. Barraza was 1 for 4.

"Not enough offensively in a winnable game," said losing manager Joey Master.

The first-place Suns bumped their record to 23-19.
