Yankees Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
|
The New York Yankees put the giddy home crowd in an even more jubilant mood after beating the Boston Red Sox in the season opener at Yankee Stadium. First Baseman Gabriele Monachino won plaudits for New York. He was 2-3 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Earning his 1st save of the year was Ben McKie.
Monachino had a game-changing double in the bottom of the seventh. On a 0-2 changeup from Jamie White, he banged a 2-run double to left, giving the Yankees a 5-4 lead. It was the 1st double of the year for Monachino.
Monachino called the win "an overall solid one."
