Biscuits Lose, 2-1; No End to Nosedive
|
In a tension-filled contest between the Biloxi Shuckers and the Montgomery Biscuits, pitcher Ben Penland was superb. The Biloxi right-hander, who is tied for 6th in the SL in quality starts with 6, spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. Penland, now 3-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Picking up the save was Geoff Gross, his 6th.
Sergio Chajon, who is tied for 9th in the SL with a .930 OPS, had a direct impact on the outcome. Chajon contributed a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put Biloxi up, 2-0.
"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped Montgomery manager Robert Alvarez. "Obviously."
The misery continues for the Biscuits, who have now dropped 15 in a row.
