The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their season in style with a blowout win over the Las Vegas Hustle at Dodger Park. The final score was 19-3. Los Angeles center fielder Dan Morrison led the attack. He was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Billy Benedict, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held Las Vegas to 3 runs on 5 hits over 6 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts.

John Lamkin had a big 3-run home run for the Dodgers in the bottom of the second inning. With Los Angeles leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Russ Einhorn, who is a three-time All-Star, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Dodgers on top, 5-1.

"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Las Vegas manager Larry Robinson.
