The Detroit Tigers turned back the Kansas City Royals, 1-0, at Comerica Park. Edgar Navarrete, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 1 for 3 with a home run. Detroit reliever Rodrigo Mendoza picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Jim Connell absorbed the loss. Earning his 2nd save for Detroit was Aaron Fields.
Detroit grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Navarrete, who finished 2nd in the AL in triples with 14 last year, hit a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season put the Tigers out in front, 1-0.
"I'm proud to wear a Detroit jersey," Navarrete told the Detroit Observer. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"
The Tigers, now 2-1, have played some good baseball in the early going.
