Mets Defeat Angels, 6-5
|
Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
The New York Mets wiggled past the Los Angeles Angels, 6-5, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The win was highlighted by the performance of New York pitcher Erik Rice. The win went to Brandon Chopp in relief, making him now 1-0. Mike James took the loss for Los Angeles. John Rood earned the save, his 2nd, for the Mets.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Kevin King came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Los Angeles pitcher Mike James, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 6-5.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said New York manager Matt Moore.
The loss drops the Angels to 1-2.
