Humberto Valenzuela, who finished 5th in the AL in innings pitched with 206.2 in 2106, had a strong outing for the Houston Astros against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 11-3 win. The winner was Valenzuela. He threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Ryan Masterson. Los Angeles now is 3-1.

The Astros got a big hit from second baseman Johnny Johnson. Facing Los Angeles pitcher Richard Clare in the top of the sixth, Johnson pounded a bases-clearing double to left. His 1st double of the season put the Astros ahead, 7-0.

"It was a team effort and I thought the guys had a good plan and approach," said Valenzuela after the game.
