Athletics Edge Past Mariners, 2-1
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Oakland Athletics and the Seattle Mariners. Oakland won it, 2-1. Oakland starter Ray Gehring was in command. Oakland reliever Freddy Hernandez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Mike Hartnagel. With the loss, Seattle falls to 2-1.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the tenth, an error by the Mariners allowed the Athletics to score the winning run.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Gehring.
