Smokies Collect 6-4 Win Over Braves
|
The Tennessee Smokies and Mississippi Braves put on quite a show.
The Tennessee Smokies had to overcome a fine effort from Mississippi pitcher Chris Valentine to win, 6-4, in 11 innings at Trustmark Park. Valentine went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Omar Zaragoza, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The save was credited to Eric Lombardo, his 3rd.
Tennessee took advantage of an error in the top of the 11th inning. The game was tied, 4-4, when Colin Shanahan hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put the Smokies in front, 6-4.
"It took some blood and sweat, but we got what we were after," said Smokies manager Steve Schwab.
Tennessee raised its record to 53-42 with the win.
