The Mobile BayBears got a scintillating performance from pitcher Ken Cornell, who shut out the Biloxi Shuckers, 1-0. The win puts the BayBears at 50-49, while the Shuckers drop to 61-38.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Mobile second baseman Bill Corson, facing Bryan Babiarz, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the BayBears the 1-0 win.

"I expect to pitch a complete game shutout every time," said Cornell.
