The Mississippi Braves got a sterling performance from right fielder Matt Stephens, but the Tennessee Smokies still prevailed, 8-6. Stephens was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. At 75-44, the Smokies find themselves in first place in the North Division.

Tennessee got a big at-bat from Twentynine Palms, California native Eric Fitzsimons, who in the bottom of the fourth hit a 2-run double. It was his 22nd double of the season and put the Smokies ahead, 6-1.

Fitzsimons attributed the triumph to "a good team effort."
