In a tight tilt between the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and the Tennessee Smokies, Roger (Eben) Penn was the deciding factor. The Pensacola right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Penn, now 5-5, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Ralph Taggart got credit for the save for Pensacola. It was his 6th of the year.
Pensacola catcher Roman Escalante delivered a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. Overall, he went 3 for 3, picking up 1 home run, 1 single, and 1 double. He scored 1 run and knocked in 1.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Penn said.
The first-place Blue Wahoos lifted their record to 79-44.
