Minnesota got a terrific game from first baseman Dan Mayes. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to New York, 4-2. Mayes was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. Josh Morgan got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 2. The save was credited to Jon Barton, his 2nd.
Robby Junker drove in one run for New York. The 26-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Ryan Sassi. It was his 1st RBI of the season.
Junker called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
The win puts New York at 3-2.
