Mets Take Tight Tangle
|
The New York Mets besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Chicago designated hitter Devin Maurer by beating the White Sox, 4-3, at U.S. Cellular Field. Maurer went 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Reliever Chris Tresidder picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Jayson Redd, who finished 4th in the AL in saves with 35 in 2107, took the loss. John Rood locked down his 1st save.
With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the top of the seventh inning, catcher Jose Cortes delivered big for the Mets. New York was trailing 3-0 when he belted a 3-run home run.
Said New York manager Rodney Smith: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
With the win, New York is 1-3.
