The Mobile BayBears could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Alex Sanchez into a win. Instead, the Birmingham Barons prevailed, 6-4. Sanchez threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Tony Ponce De Leon earned the save for Birmingham, his 24th. The Barons, at 91-39, have a comfortable 17-game lead in their division.

Andres Rojas delivered a big hit for Birmingham. The center fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Barons ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"We put it together and came out with the win," Rojas said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
