Chattanooga Collects 6-4 Win
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Chattanooga Lookouts and Tennessee Smokies.
Tennessee got a terrific game from second baseman Alex Torres. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Chattanooga, 6-4. Torres went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Chattanooga reliever David Zuniga, now 5-2. The loser was Nick Kress. Andres Fernandez picked up the save for Chattanooga, his 2nd of the year.
Chad May had a big 2-run double for the Lookouts in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Chattanooga leading 4-2 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a curveball from 21-year old left-handed pitcher Jim Unknown and swatted a double to center. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lookouts ahead, 6-2.
Chattanooga manager Nick Allison commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
The first-place Lookouts improved to 83-47.
