The Arizona Diamondbacks topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-3, in National League action at Busch Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Arizona pitcher Andy Bourdeau. Bourdeau picked up the win for Arizona, going 5.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Arizona is off to a hot start at 4-2.
Mike Lowery dealt the Cardinals a blow in the top of the sixth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Arizona leading 3-2, Lowery, the first overall pick in the 2109 draft, hit a 1-2 fastball for a 2-run single.
After the game, Arizona manager Terrell Bailey applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
