Mariners Take Down Royals, 6-5
|
The Seattle Mariners overcame a fine performance by Kansas City center fielder Tony Monterosa to defeat the Royals, 6-5, at Safeco Field. Monterosa went 2 for 3 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Reliever Tony Soto picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Jim Garvelink took the loss. Mike Hartnagel earned the save for Seattle, his 3rd of the year.
Brad Bargfrede, who finished 5th in the AL in batting average with .318 in 2087, helped out the Seattle cause in the bottom of the eighth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the catcher was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Kansas City manager Connor Gould. "The effort was great."
