Guardians Taken Down, 8-5, by Houston
|
Cleveland got a terrific game from right fielder J.J. Kirby. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Houston, 8-5. Kirby went 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Houston pitcher Adam Bailey earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Alan Weirauch suffered the loss. Jeff Hank nailed down his 3rd save.
In the bottom of the second, Houston catcher Matt Jones had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Jones stroked a 2-run single to right. It made the score 2-0, Houston. For the game, he was 2 for 4 with 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"It's nice to see a lot of guys make contributions," said Astros manager Zeb Currier.
The win gives Houston a record of 7-2.
