The Modesto Nuts picked up a win at John Thurman Field, courtesy of Jason McCaleb. The right-hander helped his team stop the Stockton Ports, 3-2. McCaleb got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Ryan Brooks wrapped it up, recording his 2nd save.

Had Matt Manning not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Manning hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Nuts.

"I went after the hitters," said McCaleb. "No pussyfooting around."

Stockton is now 5-5.
