Ports Score Late to Upend Blaze, 2-1
|
The Bakersfield Blaze wasted an inspired, 7-inning effort from starter Tommy Houston, falling, 2-1, to the Stockton Ports at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Leo Fernandez snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Mike England suffered the loss. Pedro Sambrano picked up the save for Stockton, his 2nd of the year.
Stockton won the game in part because of Nelson Isidro. The right fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Ports ahead, 2-1. For the game, Isidro had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"Nice to get this one," said Isidro. "Wins have been hard to come by."
The Ports, now 3-10, have not found much traction so far in 2110.
