Royals Flatten Mariners, 12-0
|
At the rate they were hitting, the Kansas City Royals hardly needed a gem from their starting pitcher. They got one anyway, pulling away from the Seattle Mariners in the 12-0 victory. Bill Fike played a major role in the Kansas City win. Fike, now 1-1, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing no runs. With the loss, Seattle falls to 3-5.
Kansas City relied on the hitting of Joe Crowe to pick up the win. The shortstop ripped a 2-run single in the top of the third inning to put the Royals on top, 7-0. For the game, Crowe had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"They took us to the woodshed," said Seattle manager Jim McClintic.
