San Jose Hands Rancho Cucamonga 3-2 Defeat
|
The San Jose Giants earned a close win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, thanks in part to Bryan Townsend. The San Jose left-hander, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2107 draft, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Getting the save was Cesar Chapa, his 4th. The loss drops Rancho Cucamonga to 13-4.
San Jose used a well-timed hit by Jose Serna to capture the win. The center fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Giants ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
Rancho Cucamonga manager Dave Eldon said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
