Mavericks Win, 6-4, Versus Stockton
|
The High Desert Mavericks defeated the Stockton Ports, 6-4, in part because of shortstop Hugo Vasquez. Vasquez was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk for the Mavericks. Adam Cox, the winning pitcher, is now 1-1. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 1. Alexis Guzman, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
With High Desert leading 5-4 in the top of the eighth, Vasquez hit a run-scoring single off Stockton hurler Antonio Arroyo. It was the 14th hit of the season for Vasquez and put his team ahead, 6-4.
Said Stockton manager Jon Rosales: "They just got the better of us."
With the win, High Desert boosts its record to 9-9.
