Reds Win in 14
|
Thanks in large part to third baseman Gerardo Machado, the Cincinnati Reds clipped the Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-5, in 14 innings. Machado went 3 for 6 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The win went to Tim Snipes in relief, making him now 2-0. Tyler Chargois took the loss for Pittsburgh. The loss has the Pirates at 3-5.
Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Gary Arbogast to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 14th inning to put the Reds on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"There's no quit in this team," said Reds manager BJ Gorman.
