Giants Fall, 3-1, to Bakersfield
|
Bakersfield pitcher Gregorio de Leon did his part in helping his team defeat the San Jose Giants, 3-1. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. The winning pitcher was de Leon, now 1-0. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 9. The win puts Bakersfield at 10-9.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Blaze had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the sixth, when third baseman Tommy Vogel hit a run-scoring single. The single came off William Wise and made the score 2-1, Blaze. Vogel went 1 for 4.
"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped San Jose manager Fernando Melendez. "Obviously."
