Storm Subdue 66ers, 5-2
|
The Lake Elsinore Storm got a stellar effort from pitcher Bill Pufahl, helping Lake Elsinore score a win over the visiting Inland Empire 66ers, 5-2. Even with the win, it has been a disastrous start to the year for the Storm, who once had aspirations of returning to the playoffs. Now, they find themselves mired in 4th place at 7-13.
Luis Pena had a big 2-run double for the Storm in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Lake Elsinore leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a curveball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Kelly Maas and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Storm ahead, 3-0.
Pena said his team "executed a good game plan."
