The Modesto Nuts had to overcome a fine effort from Bakersfield pitcher Shawn Zahn to win, 5-3, at John Thurman Field. Zahn went 7 innings and allowed no runs. Modesto reliever Steve Harris got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Paul Roe was tagged with the loss. The save was credited to Micah Oliver, his 1st.

Modesto took the lead, 5-3, on Masali Uehara's 5th home run of the season. The 3-run home run came off Bakersfield pitcher Paul Roe in the bottom of the eighth.

"We did enough to win," said Uehara.

The loss drops Bakersfield to 12-9.
