Quakes Get Hard-Earned Win
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes overcame a pretty good performance by High Desert second baseman Hugo Vasquez, beating the Mavericks, 7-6, at Stater Bros. Stadium. Vasquez was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Rancho Cucamonga reliever Jake Young was the winner. His record is now 3-1. The losing pitcher was Marcos Luna. Matt Gilbertson recorded the save for Rancho Cucamonga, his 2nd of the season.

Rancho Cucamonga used the timely hitting of Alex Parra to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Quakes on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Fun game," said Parra, "even when the outcome was in doubt."

The Quakes, now 16-5, have played well so far.
