Giants Take Nail-Biter Over Ports
|
Stockton left fielder Warren Curtis had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Curtis went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, even as San Jose beat the Ports, 6-5, in 10 innings. The winner was Jose Fabian in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Ricky Vazquez took the loss. Early on, the Giants, at 17-6, have excelled.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the tenth. With San Jose trailing 5-4, Angel Burgus hit a cutter from Ricky Vazquez to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Giants had a walk-off win.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Burgus told the San Jose Herald. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
