Mavericks Even Record with 6-5 Victory
|
The inspired effort of Lancaster right fielder Tadasu Onuma was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-5, to the High Desert Mavericks. Onuma went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk. Josh Young, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 0 and walking 2. Marcos Luna sewed up the save, his 1st.
In the bottom of the 6th, catcher Miguel Montes gave High Desert the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Mavericks had been trailing 5-4, but the two-out single off Lancaster pitcher Jason Martin changed that -- and High Desert went on to win.
"We're in a little funk right now and we've just got to get ourselves out of it," said Lancaster manager Jose Gomez.
With the win, High Desert goes to 12-12.
