The Lake Elsinore Storm topped the Inland Empire 66ers, 7-3, in California League action at San Manuel Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Lake Elsinore pitcher and Santiago, Dominican Republic, native Juan Cortez. The triumph puts Lake Elsinore at 25-8 for the season.

Lake Elsinore used a well-timed hit by Jim Turner to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Storm ahead, 6-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

"We played hard and won," said Cortez. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
