The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, despite a fine performance by Inland Empire pitcher Eddie Shipman, grabbed a 1-0 win at San Manuel Stadium. Shipman allowed 1 run over 7 innings. Ruben Cardona earned the win to go to 2-0. He allowed no runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Bill Pavek closed out the game, earning his 2nd save.

The 66ers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Quakes going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old right fielder Bobby Prescott came to the plate. Prescott hit a solo home run on a 2-2 fastball from Inland Empire hurler Eddie Shipman. It was Prescott's 3rd home run of the year.

"We won," said Prescott. "But they made us earn it."

The wins continue to add up for Rancho Cucamonga. The latest makes it 7 in a row.
