Stockton got a first-rate effort from pitcher Chris Scumaci, who frustrated Modesto hitters en route to a 3-1 Ports triumph at Banner Island Ballpark. Javier Casquinha picked up the save for Stockton, his 2nd of the year. The Ports go to 12-27 with the win.

Justin Phillips had a big 2-run home run for the Ports in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Stockton trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Roy Underhill, who is tied for 5th in the CAL in wins with 4, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Ports on top, 2-1.

"Well, it's always frustrating to lose," said Modesto manager Steve Kamps.
