Quakes Stay Hot, Beat Blaze, 2-1

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes earned a close win over the Bakersfield Blaze, thanks in part to Ryan Gates. The Rancho Cucamonga left-hander, who is tied for 6th in the CAL with a 2.22 ERA, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. The save went to Jake Young, number 5 for him. The first-place Quakes have won 5 in a row.
Rancho Cucamonga right fielder Andy Ortega contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 18th hit of the season and put the Quakes ahead, 2-1.
"For the most part, I felt like I did a pretty good job with executing the pitches I was throwing," said Gates.
