Bakersfield parlayed a decent outing from starter Tommy Houston into a solid win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The final score was 5-3. The 4th-place Blaze now have a record of 22-30.

Bakersfield right fielder Joel Maxwell contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a slider to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 53rd hit of the season and put the Blaze ahead, 3-1.

In postgame comments, Maxwell told the Bakersfield Today: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
