C.J. Akerlund was instrumental in his team's 7-3 triumph over the High Desert Mavericks. The first baseman was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk for the Bakersfield Blaze. Blake Anderson recorded his 7th save for Bakersfield. The third-place Blaze now sit at 24-29.

Bakersfield used a well-timed hit by Tony Ferrel to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Blaze ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"We came in and did what we needed to do," said Bakersfield manager Matt Kolb.
