The Stockton Ports had to overcome a good performance from Bakersfield pitcher Sal Vera to claim a 2-1 win at Banner Island Ballpark. Vera went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. At 27-31, Stockton is in third place in the North Division.

Had Jayden Watson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Watson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Ports.

"That's baseball," said Bakersfield manager Jerry Zuniga. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
