5 Straight Wins for Giants
The San Jose Giants cut down the Visalia Rawhide by the score of 9-5, with the largest share of the credit going to third baseman Kevin Shaffer. Shaffer went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Giants. San Jose, at 44-20, is 5½ games up in the North Division.

Jim White had a big 2-run double for the Giants in the top of the first inning. With San Jose leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Jeff Homewood, who is tied for 6th in the CAL in wins with 6, and swatted a double to center. It was his 21st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 3-0.

"We've got a great group of guys," Shaffer said, "and we're having fun right now."
