66ers Edge Past Ports, 6-5
|
Despite a fine performance by third baseman Joe Harbin, the Stockton Ports lost to the Inland Empire 66ers, 6-5. Harbin went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Inland Empire reliever Victor Madrigal was the winner. His record is now 1-2. Kevin Hopkins took the loss. Inland Empire sits in last place in the South Division at 16-54.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 24-year old second baseman Aaron Wanner had a chance to be the hero. Stockton pitcher Kevin Hopkins had other ideas. But with no outs, Wanner drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The 66ers had themselves a dramatic win.
"Now that's what I call an exciting game," said 66ers manager Jonathan Vasquez.
