Nelson Escobedo was superb against Lake Elsinore. The right-hander, who leads the CAL in strikeouts with 127, had a changeup that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Quakes victory. The score was 8-3. The winner was Escobedo. He threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Seth Owen. At 51-22, the Quakes claim first place in the South Division.

Justin Mateo, who is tied for 4th in the CAL in RBI with 41, took Lake Elsinore hurler Seth Owen deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Quakes on top, 2-0. In all, Mateo had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
