The Boston Red Sox powered past the New York Yankees, 9-7, at Yankee Stadium. Mark Fasciana provided some of the pop. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Sam Cardwell, the winner, improved to 2-1. He held the Yankees to 2 runs on 4 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2. The save was credited to John Baines, his 1st.

Boston won the game in part because of Allan Chapman. The first baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 5-2. For the game, Chapman had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"When I'm in the lineup, I always feel like we're going to win the game," said Chapman.

The win brings the Red Sox to 5-9, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
