The Modesto Nuts got great pitching from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Paul Covey, allowing them to bump off the San Jose Giants, 2-0. The first-place Giants dropped to 52-32.

Covey was in the zone all game. He frustrated San Jose hitters while giving the Nuts 8.2 innings of quality work. Covey threw 88 pitches, allowing 4 hits and getting 6 punchouts.

"I'm happy we won," said Covey. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
