JetHawks Fall to Mavericks, 1-0
|
The High Desert Mavericks topped the Lancaster JetHawks, 1-0, in California League action at Stater Bros. Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of High Desert pitcher Marco Gonzalez. Gonzalez, now 7-5, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing no runs. The triumph puts High Desert at 43-42 for the season.
The JetHawks had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Mavericks going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old center fielder Garrett Vieau came to the plate. Vieau hit a solo home run on a 1-1 fastball from Lancaster hurler Mike Hewitt. It was Vieau's 11th home run of the year.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Vieau told the High Desert Times.
