Late Offense Lifts Stockton to 3-2 Victory
|
The San Jose Giants could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Fidel Gonzales into a win. Instead, the Stockton Ports prevailed, 3-2. Gonzales threw 6.2 innings of shutout ball. Mike Zadrozny, now 1-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. Javy Pineda closed it out for Stockton, earning his 7th save.
Stockton used a timely hit from Omar Guerrero to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Ports ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a difference-maker.
Said losing manager Josh Gilmore: "Not taking anything away from them, but we swung the bats better than what it showed."
Stockton is now 28-59, while San Jose is 56-31.
