Slumping Nuts Lose Again
|
The 66ers faced a stiff challenge from Modesto pitcher David Soto, but persevered to claim a win at San Manuel Stadium. The final score was 2-0. Soto went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner in relief was Danny Santos. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. He now owns a record of 2-0. Tim Stephens earned his 2nd save, after closing out the game.
Kyle Gomez, who is tied for 7th in the CAL with a .375 on-base percentage, chipped in a 2-run home run for Inland Empire in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"This game will humble you at times and you've got to buck up and deal with it," said Modesto manager Steve Kamps.
The losses continue to add up for Modesto, having now dropped 9 straight.
