The High Desert Mavericks converted a terrific effort from starter Alexis Guzman into a win over the Bakersfield Blaze at Stater Bros. Stadium. The Mavericks won the game by a final score of 4-2. Guzman, now 2-7, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Bob Baxter earned his 2nd save in 2 chances.

The Blaze had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Mavericks going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old second baseman Hugo Vasquez came to the plate. Vasquez hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch fastball from Bakersfield hurler Jason Langan. It was Vasquez's 5th double of the year.

"They played a better game than we did," said Bakersfield skipper Matt Kolb.

High Desert goes to 24-67, Bakersfield to 41-50.
