The Inland Empire 66ers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Andrew Williams into a win. Instead, the Modesto Nuts prevailed, 2-0. Williams threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Tom Valko picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while walking 4 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 6-3. Takumu Gambill closed the game out for Modesto, earning his 4th save.

The 66ers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Nuts going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old right fielder Danny Venegas came to the plate. Venegas hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 sinker from Inland Empire hurler Andrew Williams. It was Venegas's 5th home run of the year.

"We'll pocket this win," said Venegas, "and then go after another."

The last-place 66ers now sit at 37-54.
