bin Burhan Superb Against High Desert
Nazih bin Burhan of the Bakersfield Blaze was on top of his game.

The 27-year-old tantalized the High Desert Mavericks with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 7-0.

"He had the changeup working," High Desert manager Danny Alonso said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Bakersfield hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.

bin Burhan told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

Thus far this season, bin Burhan has tossed 123.2 innings in 19 starts, fanned 121 batters, walked 43 and put up a 3.71 ERA with 7 wins and 7 losses.
