San Jose pitcher Brad MacDonald had a large part in his team subduing the Lake Elsinore Storm, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Dave Bigby got credit for the win, improving to 7-2. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings. Adam Murphy earned the save, his 17th.
Had Willie Verduzco not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Verduzco hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Giants.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Lake Elsinore manager Danny Morton. "We just didn't cash in."
San Jose is second in the North Division with a record of 50-50.
