Win Lifts Giants to 50-50
|
San Jose pitcher Nick Carson did his part in helping his team beat the Lake Elsinore Storm, 5-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Carson got the win, improving to 2-4. He gave up 8 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 3 runs. The save went to Marco Valverde, his 3rd this season.
Chris Slemp had a big bases-clearing double for the Giants in the bottom of the fourth inning. With San Jose leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Tony Rivera, who is tied for 2nd in the CAL in innings pitched with 180.1, and swatted a double to right. It was his 17th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 5-1.
"We were the better team," crowed Slemp.
San Jose now sits at 50-50, while Lake Elsinore falls to 46-54.
