Cardinals Tag Mets with 4-3 Loss
|
The rain came, as predicted, but the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets were able to complete their ballgame.
New York first baseman Scott Hatcher was sensational. He was 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. St. Louis beat the Mets, 4-3. With the win, St. Louis goes to 5-7.
Dave Smeal came through with a big-time hit for St. Louis. The catcher smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said New York manager Matt Moore, "let me know."
